Topman White Trim Grey Blazer

Since our first post on the blazer back last year, it has come along way as a fashion essential. If theres any kind of smart event, big night out or even just a casual work day the blazer is an essential. Garm of the week this week is a very smart but also casual jersey blazer with white trim from Topman. Instead of Explaining what to wear with it blah blah, were just gunna put together a couple of outfits, one casual and one smart.

The best thing to wear under the blazer to make it even more casual would be a fresh t-shirt, preferably one that compliments the footwear you have on.

A cool finishing touch on the smart outfit is always a sharp bow-tie & a neckerchief folded in the top pocket, a good accessorie to add to both looks is a nice watch. Our previous post about Watches shows some great examples.

Garm of The Week – All Saints Pyrus Blazer

I know that a blazer is an essential bit of kit when it comes to men’s fashion and I’m not happy with the outdated one I have hanging in my wardrobe. Realising that I need an upgrade I thought I would use this opportunity to see what the high street and online fashion stores have to offer and then share this with you (the readers) as a garm of the week feature. After a bit of browsing around I picked this one from All Saints, I wasn’t looking for a blazer to make up part of a suit, but more a jacket for a smart / casual outfit and being single button, slim fit and charcoal in colour this All Saints one ticked all the boxes and I think the £150 price tag is quite reasonable.

There’s not much else I can say to justify why I picked this as the garm of the week, as it’s mainly down to personal taste and style. If you are thinking of buying a blazer and this is the sort of style you are looking for then I recommend you get to your local All Saints store and try it on, if it’s not for you, you can always come back on here and give me some grief via the comments box below.

Retro Fashion with Hi-Top Pumps

Hi-tops are becoming a fashionable choice of footwear these days, they give a retro feel, work great with the skinny jeans trend and add a bit of energy to any casual outfit. You can keep them simple, with classic styles and basic colours or if you prefer to make a statement with your outfits you can go with a funked up pair and possibly colour match to your favourite hat, cap or t-shirt. With the range of hi-tops available you shouldn’t have a problem trying to find a pair to suit your particular taste and style, you get to pick from all the classic Nike, Adidas and Puma ranges and new ranges from modern designers producing old school footwear to keep up with the trend.

I prefer wearing Hi-Top trainers with either skinny jeans, or loose jeans with a skinny ankle. Then maybe a sweater, like the ones featured in yesterdays post, or If I’m not going anywhere special they work well with a hoodie. Another look I haven’t tried pulling off yet is hi-tops with a blazer and t-shirt, I’ve seen a few people working this look and it’s a good smart / casual mix. Hi-tops are a good excuse to move away from canvas styled trainers, which are starting to get a bit boring, although you can get some decent canvas hi-tops the leather ones are going to be more chunky and contribute a bit more to an outfit, plus you will get a bit more wear out of them.

Recently, the trend has always been skinny jeans and layered cardigans and t-shirts, or Smart blazers and fitted shirts. The people that have kept this look going have now adopted the new trend. They’re going Geek Chic.
Now were not asking you to spend 10 hours of your day playing World of Warcraft, wear running trainers everywhere or even buy your jeans 6 inches shorter on leg. we mean adding certain accessories and styles that look down right nerdy, but with the right confidence and a good eye for fashion this can easily be pulled off.
Alot of celebritys have jumped on the bandwagon and got involved with this look, because the accessories like the clear lens glasses and the bow ties worn with a gentlemans suit or a fitted blazer just looks so unique.

Heres a couple of outfits i’ve put together that you can change into your own style or a way that suits you. Have fun!

Men’s Dsquared² Collection

I was just looking at the men’s Dsquared collection for autumn and winter and thought I would post some of the catwalk shots. Most of the outfits dsquared took down the catwalk seem to mix smart and scruffy, they have the smart blazers or waist coats but then scruff it up by having rolled up sleeves and dirty look ripped jeans. It’s also obvious that most of the models are wearing bow ties, the bow tie seems to be an increasingly popular trend these day, seen being worn by celebrities like the stylish kanye west.

In the UK as most of you may know, considering you are reading this because you are into fashion, the skinny jean is a wardrobe essential. Whether you’ve got an indie style or you consider yourself a lad about town. If you’re reading this because you’re thinking of investing a pair, i highly recommend it. The only jeans i own are all slim or skinny jeans, i couldn’t think of stepping outside in a pair of bootcut or flared jean in my life again! In my city, the skinny jean is considered the typical pair of jeans for the ‘Fashionable’ and ‘Trend setting’ minds. Don’t be fooled! though the jeans may be getting easier to wear, the look isn’t easy to pull off. The trick is to wear skinny jeans with slim-fitting shirts and pointy-toed dress shoes or dressy boots. Any squarish, loose or, worse still, boxy-fit sweater or shirt can make a man’s proportions look out of whack and his legs way too skinny. Today i’m going to put together a few outfits, ranging from Smart to Casual.

Smart Look

This look is more for when were coming into Autumn/winter but can still very much be pulled off at the moment. Starting with the left outfit, a very smart look. The blazer is From All Saints, Black Skinny Jeans are from Topman, and The Bass tassle loafers are from ASOS The Online Fashion Store. Underneath the blazer a good look would be a smart solid colour shirt or a crisp white Deep V-neck.

The Right outfit, Still smart but a little more casual. Casual Look

The Left Outfit, which has been quite popular recently is the denim shirt, sometimes wore open with a very large white scoop neck basically revealing your chest. The Denim shirt is from All Saints, The Black Skinny Pipe-fit jeans are also from All Saints, and at a reasonable £55 it’s definetly worth buying two pairs and going to the tailor to get one cut off and rolled to just below the knee as it’s a great look, The Sebago Spinnaker Dockside Shoes are availiable from ASOS The Online Fashion Store.

The Right out fit is a very good look at the moment, Layered with a smart navy cardigan and maybe a white skinny belt. The Jeans also look very fashionable rolled up a few turns revealing the ankle. The key to an Autumn wardrobe is mixing it up. In the past few years men have been reintroduced to a more dressed up look. Now feeling more comfortable with the idea they are ready to update the look by mixing and matching some key pieces. The blazer has become a must have to every man’s wardrobe. Versatility of this piece is vital when choosing your new blazer for Autumn.  Here are a few tips to guide you in the right direction in choosing a blazer:

• The blazer can be worn day to evening and should be able to work with various looks.
• A denim blazer will work for day time when paired with a fine knit sweater or can be brought to an evening look when put over a bold woven shirt (think novelty clip spots, or a small scale check shirt updated in bright colors).
• Tweed and herringbone can also be versatile options for a blazer. Look for updates to these classic fabrics in color and scale. Classic browns and blacks for tweeds and herringbones are accented with a royal blue, orange or other vivid colored yarn dyes.
• The fun part about the Autumn season is taking the blazer and pairing it with a complementing trouser. You don’t have to worry about having an exact match.
• Use the tweed blazer with a Deep V-neck and your favorite pair of dark washed denim or Skinny jeans.

• The way of putting them together is that the look is not fussy or contrived. It’s about feeling comfortable with these pieces and using different fabrics, constructions and weaves to create some surface interest/visual appeal.Take Tom Ford’s 2009 collections for example, it shows exactly how to pull off a blazer with variations of clothing and look ridiculously Smart and Suave.

On any night out now in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol etc. you will see a lot of stylish men rocking a blazer. I’m not talking what you used to wear to school or even the really formal suit jackets you wear for work – I am talking a more relaxed blazer jacket which has a bit of flair. Enough to make you look smart, with clean cut lines, but with a more relaxed, fashionable feel.

How To Wear A Blazer

Always make sure the fit is still slim and fitted. When you buy “off the rack” most of the big designers like Vivienne Westwood or Ralph Lauren will still come with a great cut and it’s just about getting the right size. If you go for a more budget fashion store then the fit might not be perfect, but you can easily get a local tailor or seamstress to take the blazer in at the right places and give it a perfect fit on you. These services literally only cost around ten to twenty pounds normally for a great job and will make it look like the blazer has cost hundreds more.

For a casual look that many will wear out on a night out you can go a completely different way; wear normal, fitted or skinny jeans, a Graphic T-shirt and throw the blazer on over the top. You can rock this with a nice relaxed Tasseled Loafer or Boat shoe. This gives off a definite relaxed vibe but will make you come across as stylish just from the fact you have put that little extra effort in with the blazer setting it all off. It adds clean cut style to your image and an impression of wealth.

Handkerchiefs

It can be difficult to get away with bold, bright colors, whether you are a man or a woman. However, men in particular have to be careful about flourishing in vibrant colors, at least on some occasions.

There is no question, however, that a bright spot or vibrant accenting piece in your ensemble can give it what it needs to be edgy. In certain cases, doing so can even lend an elegance and sophistication to what you are wearing. Such as when you give in to the return of handkerchiefs as accent pieces.

With a hanky in your front pocket, you can accentuate your outfit without overwhelming, as a brightly colored jacket might do. You typically want to make your handkerchief match a color in your shirt, tie, etc. or at least make it complementary.

Do not be a cheapskate with your handkerchiefs, either. The standard white one can take you far, but definitely do not be afraid of bolder colors, such as burgundy, a dark green, pale blues — even purple is sometimes acceptable.
