In 2008 Autumn and winter may have brought out long coats and trenches before, but not this year. One of the most sought-after pieces for the upcoming season will be the shrunken denim jacket, in a variety of styles, not just the denim jacket but the Double Denim look is catching on. it’s very daring but if pulled off looks so cool. The difference between these new, tinier versions of your traditional autumn and winter favorites is their length; cuts are the same as traditional coats, but they hit slightly above the waist and often tie or button under the chest. The beauty of these new pieces is that they provide coverage in colder months without sacrificing your cool image.

The beauty of these new denim jackets is the versatility they bring to your own style: mix them with denim, hoodys, tees, skinny jeans. Since there isn’t one specific style or fabric that will reign this fall, all styles and sizes can take advantage of a new take on an old favorite. this follows on from the rugged worker trend in a previous post.

Another signature feature of mens denim jacket is its Retro appeal. If you like your denim jacket to look stressed, it will look even better after months of heavy wear. Such renowned brands ensure your every single denim jacket is made with care and can last a long time.

In terms of color matching, you can trust denim jacket to mix well with your outfit perfectly. Whatever your favorite color may be, denim jacket can always blend seamlessly to your liking. However, if you want to create an impression you can always look for denim jackets in other shades other than blue. Do make sure that it can fit well with a couple of your outfits to keep your denim jacket versatile.

As far as material goes, the main material of denim jacket is of course denim. This type of jacket usually doesn’t have any zipper on the front. Instead, it comes with buttons normally. Kanye West is probably the first who has brought the denim look and double denim back. If you look at the pic on the left, you’ll notice he has even dared to wear triple denim (jeans, shirt and jacket, all in different washes).  I like West’s style, because he isn’t afraid of experimenting with fashion: in the second pic, for example, he tries to make double denim elegant, adding a white shirt, a blue sweater and a Bow-tie to jeans and jacket.

There has recently been alot of attention on more formal men’s fashion trends and the sophisticated look, I wanted to take a step back and look at the more rugged working class trend that All Saints seem to concentrate on. Looking through this seasons All Saints collection, they rarely break into any bright colours and add a rough and or dirty finish to some of the denim, footwear and shirts.

All Saints are still taking advantage of the popularity of the checked shirts, with a variety of styles and colour combinations in their new collection. All Saints shirts are generally thicker than other similar checked shirts on the market, adding to that ‘worker’ look and on a technical level making them more durable, they have also designed a padded quilted checked shirt which gives a real lumberjack look. When you have a checked shirt sorted the next step towards that rugged ‘worker’ look is pair of rough looking boots, All Saints is probably the best place to get a pair of these, as they have some good designs in their collection, different designs and different colours most of them with a rough/used finish.

With this worker look, it is one of the only times you can get away with wearing double denim, jeans with a similar colour denim jacket. As seen in the image above, where the model is wearing double denim with a burgundy checked shirt and rugged brown boots. It’s another look to think about and we’ve seen the likes of Justin Timberlake wearing denim jackets recently, as discussed in an earlier post.
