When you get a bit of time, grab some of your old jeans and a pair of scissors and have a go at cutting yourself some denim shorts. Denim shorts are always fashionable in the summer if they are worn properly and with the right gear, they can also be cheap if you make your own by recycling some of your out dated jeans.

With a big trend being short shorts this summer, thats exactly what you want to go for when making your own pair of denim shorts, remember to leave some room for a couple of turn ups though. Even if your old jeans you dig out seem a bit loose round the legs and crotch thats OK because with a minimal bit of sewing skill you can pinch in the seems at the bottom of the shorts and sew the edges together, giving you that carrot fit style.

Don’t worry too much about the colours of the jeans as you will probably find a use for any colour of denim shorts. Denim shorts work well with graphic t’s and vests, striped t’s, cardigans, espadrilles, boat shoes, tasseled shoes, canvas trainers, the list goes on. Have a look at a couple of looks I gathered below.

Not exactly a new trend in Men’s Fashion but stripes can bring something to a range of different looks. Although striped t-shirts seem to grow in popularity in the summer striped tops can be worn all year round. In this post I just wanted to have a look at a couple of possible outfits you can put together that include stripes, some aimed at the summer months and some you can put to use whilst it’s still cold out and you need to layer up.

Depending on what sort of look you are going for you might want to think about stripe colours and t-shirt style. stripes always seem to work well with scoop neck t-shirts, polos and vests, popular colours combos include navy and white, black and white, black and red, grey and white. The images below show striped t-shirts mixing well with the denim trend, both denim jackets and denim shirts. Maybe a bit much for the summer but whilst the spring lasts this could be a good look.

Some Ideas from ASOS

Looking through the pictures from the AW 10/11 collections presented at the recent Milan Fashion show, there were a few noticeable trends consistent throughout the different designers. Military seemed to be a big hit once again and a lot of looks using jeans tucked into boots, a trend thats been about for a while now. The title of this post indicates the next big trend I noticed, playing a big part in of many designers collections. Fur and sheepskin was present in many of the jackets and coats at the Milan Fashion show.

I’ve displayed a few images below showing you a few of the ways designers were using fur and sheepskin in their collections. The designers have used fur and sheepskin with all different types of outerwear, including, macs, bombers, leathers, parkas, pea coats etc. It’s a good look and obviously adds that extra bit of warmth to the coat or jacket. Here at Men’s Fashion Bible, we usually try and pick up on trends from fashion shows and then point our readers in the right direction of how they can put together the looks from high street stores. Unfortunately, after browsing the Internet, I haven’t been able to find anything from all the usually high street fashion stores we feature, but I’m sure it won’t be long until they start bringing out their designer alternatives. When it comes to Autumn and Winter fashion, you can never go wrong with a bit of tweed. This year especially, with popular fashion trends involving that British heritage look and grand father style. Tweed will add a slightly sophisticated look to any outfit, it is also a quality fabric that will last more than one season and not to forget it will keep you warm as the days get colder. There is a lot of potential in tweed based clothing to generate some stylish looks.

A tweed blazer or jacket really brings out the full potential of the material and then you can top it off with a tweed hat, bow tie or scarf. It has been popular this season with many designers so there is a big selection of tweed based clothing items for you to pick from to suit your individual style and taste. Tweed does go well with trousers or chino’s but personally i prefer to keep it a bit more casual and go with jeans, possible footwear ideas to go with tweed could be a pair of brown brogues or tasseled loafers, canvas trainers also work well, maybe even tweed trainers. A little inspiration to what looks can be achieved using tweed garments

As expected, in the summer it was all about bright and light colours, we seen fashion trends like white jeans, bright coloured chinos, coloured watches etc. Now we’re moving into winter it’s all about moving back to darker clothing and mixing a lot of black into your style, it might sound a bit depressing and a bit gothic but if you get it right black based outfits can be very stylish.

You can get a few different looks out of black outfits, a common one is that rock star look, black skinny’s, black leather jacket, low cut t-shirt’s and maybe a scarf, a simple look to pull off and more of a casual outfit, if you want some inspiration for a look like this have a little look at some Russel Brand pics, whether he’s shopping or on a night out it always seems to be tight black skinny’s and a black jacket for him.

The picture of Kanye West below shows another all black look, but one that brings a bit more class with it compared to the rock star look we talked about above. This look uses black jeans again but you don’t have to go as tight, the main touch is the outerwear, a black or dark grey blazer over a v-neck or low cut t-shirt, is one option or other possibilities could include a military style jacket or Mac. This style works with both shoes or trainers, hi-tops or tasseled loafers would work best with a blazer, if you went with a black military jacket however, some black work boots could be a better option.

David Beckham’s Recent Look, Style and Trends

Stylish Celebrities like David Beckham never fail to bring us new trends or shows us how to properly pull off the latest trends of men’s fashion. I thought it would be interesting to see some of David Beckams latest looks, I managed to pick up a few pics of him at Gatwick Airport and then a couple from a Lakers game he recently went to watch. It’s clear from the images that the outfits he’s seen wearing, match some of the styles and trends we’ve discussed here at Men’s Fashion Bible over the past couple of months which reassures us we know, at least a little bit, about what we’re talking about, however as always there are some small bits and pieces to most fashionable celebrities that separates them from the average male.

Below the pictures of Beckham himself I have put together a small lookbook showing you how you can pull off the same sort of outfits from high street and online fashion stores.

The first image shows Beck’s in the double denim, washed denim jeans and a solid denim shirt. We seen the denim shirt rise in popularity as we went into the summer but the look was more denim shirt with dark or black jeans, the look has modified slightly since then and moved across to the matching denim look. In a previous post we looked at Justin Timberlake wearing jeans and a matching denim jacket a similar look to Beckham’s denim outfit below. The detail in the shirt and the tanned belt gives off a Westren Cowboy feel, another small touch to note is the top button done up, which could be the small factor that separates cowboy fancy dress look and stylish trend.

The next look is concentrated around the worker trend, Beckham’s wearing worker styled boots and distressed jeans, on the top half he’s got a checked shirt with half the buttons done up and a white t-shirt underneath, a look he seems to go for quite regularly. For outer where, he’s got a navy chunky knit, chunky knits are going to be a popular winter trend and a good bit of kit to invest in. An interesting finish to the look is the newsboy hat / cap, a common fashion accessory in women’s fashion but not very often seen on men, it looks good on Beck’s though so maybe it’s something to think about.

The last two images show us more of Beckham going for that worker trend, indicating he must be quite keen on this look at the moment, with more worker boots, distressed jeans and checked shirts. The image on the right brings another appearance of the newsboy hat, a different colour to match the not so chunky knit he’s wearing in this image.

Winter Fashion Trend – Scarves

Often understated, winter scarves are the most flattering winter accessory for men. In addition to ability to make you look trendy, winter scarves are there, let’s not forget, for funcion too. Winter scarves will save you the undesirable feeling of cold breeze crawling down your neck and cut away any chance of having snow sliding in your shirt. With that said, don’t wear winter scarves only when it’s freezing outside. Winter scarves can successfully be worn even in early autumn as an accessory that will surely give you a sense of individuality. If you want to add some color to your look, a scarf is a good way to do it. If you live in a cold climate, it’s even better—scarves are a necessity in cool weather, so you can enjoy them daily as an accessory to your winter jacket or coat, too.

Retro Fashion with Hi-Top Pumps

Hi-tops are becoming a fashionable choice of footwear these days, they give a retro feel, work great with the skinny jeans trend and add a bit of energy to any casual outfit. You can keep them simple, with classic styles and basic colours or if you prefer to make a statement with your outfits you can go with a funked up pair and possibly colour match to your favourite hat, cap or t-shirt. With the range of hi-tops available you shouldn’t have a problem trying to find a pair to suit your particular taste and style, you get to pick from all the classic Nike, Adidas and Puma ranges and new ranges from modern designers producing old school footwear to keep up with the trend.

I prefer wearing Hi-Top trainers with either skinny jeans, or loose jeans with a skinny ankle. Then maybe a sweater, like the ones featured in yesterdays post, or If I’m not going anywhere special they work well with a hoodie. Another look I haven’t tried pulling off yet is hi-tops with a blazer and t-shirt, I’ve seen a few people working this look and it’s a good smart / casual mix. Hi-tops are a good excuse to move away from canvas styled trainers, which are starting to get a bit boring, although you can get some decent canvas hi-tops the leather ones are going to be more chunky and contribute a bit more to an outfit, plus you will get a bit more wear out of them.

Barbour Jacket Winter Trend

Up until recently waxed jackets were only popular with farmers and people of the British countryside, over the last year they have somehow made their way into the towns and are becoming a popular trend in men’s fashion. Barbour is the major brand behind this waxed style jacket and in a previous post we talked about how the quilted barbour jacket also made the same transition from country side to town fashion. I was curious how this fashion trend originated and found it wasn’t actually part of Barbour rebranding themselves to target a younger and trendier market, it was, as with many things in fashion, mainly down to celebrity influence.

Celebrities such as Alex Turner and Lilly Allen sparked the trend by wearing Barbour jackets whilst performing at festivals, the trend grew in popularity in both men’s and women’s fashion quite rapidly. Once Barbour realised their clothing was becoming fashionable, they didn’t sit back and watch, they started to think of ways they could adapt their clothing ranges to fit in with modern fashion trends but still maintain that traditional british heritage style. PRPS Autumn and Winter Lookbook

PRPS have become a popular brand in the US and are growing in popularity in the UK, they seem to have become a common choice of denim for many celebrities including David Beckham and Tom Cruise. PRPS are probably best known for producing jeans finished with an authentic distressed look. For each collection, PRPS put alot of time and effort into research and development they say they ‘take detail from military, work wear and hunting apparel’. Taking detail from those three areas should work especially well for them this season as they are all popular trends within themselves, we’ve talked about the worker trend and touched on hunting apparel in previous posts, the military trend is popular with All Saints, where they have a selection of military style jackets in their collection, I have also noticed diesel breaking into the military trend with a military look chunky knit. Anyway back on topic, two quotes from the PRPS website clearly indicates why they have gained alot of respect in the men’s fashion world…

Although PRPS are on the expensive side they are definitely one brand of jeans that is actually worth the money. If you have a pair of PRPS or are going to purchase some you will be able to tell from the amount of detail in them, how much work and care have gone into each pair to ensure quality denim that isn’t comparable to other brands of jeans. We discussed in previous posts including the Dsquared 09/10 collection and Justin Timberlake style how the distressed look in jeans has recently began to grow in popularity and make it’s way into this seasons trends, PRPS should be leading this trend as they have been producing distressed jeans for the last three years.

The new PRPS collection also includes some great mens clothing for the upper body, including t-shirts, leather and denim jackets, denim and checked shirts and knitwear. Last week we discussed the rise of the double denim in mens fashion and below the PRPS model (fourth row down, second column) has taken it one step further with a triple denim look. From looking at the images below you can see that PRPS are not big fans of skinny jeans, with most of the styles being a straight leg fit.
