Garm of The Week – All Saints Pyrus Blazer

I know that a blazer is an essential bit of kit when it comes to men’s fashion and I’m not happy with the outdated one I have hanging in my wardrobe. Realising that I need an upgrade I thought I would use this opportunity to see what the high street and online fashion stores have to offer and then share this with you (the readers) as a garm of the week feature. After a bit of browsing around I picked this one from All Saints, I wasn’t looking for a blazer to make up part of a suit, but more a jacket for a smart / casual outfit and being single button, slim fit and charcoal in colour this All Saints one ticked all the boxes and I think the £150 price tag is quite reasonable.

There’s not much else I can say to justify why I picked this as the garm of the week, as it’s mainly down to personal taste and style. If you are thinking of buying a blazer and this is the sort of style you are looking for then I recommend you get to your local All Saints store and try it on, if it’s not for you, you can always come back on here and give me some grief via the comments box below.

PRPS Autumn and Winter Lookbook

PRPS have become a popular brand in the US and are growing in popularity in the UK, they seem to have become a common choice of denim for many celebrities including David Beckham and Tom Cruise. PRPS are probably best known for producing jeans finished with an authentic distressed look. For each collection, PRPS put alot of time and effort into research and development they say they ‘take detail from military, work wear and hunting apparel’. Taking detail from those three areas should work especially well for them this season as they are all popular trends within themselves, we’ve talked about the worker trend and touched on hunting apparel in previous posts, the military trend is popular with All Saints, where they have a selection of military style jackets in their collection, I have also noticed diesel breaking into the military trend with a military look chunky knit. Anyway back on topic, two quotes from the PRPS website clearly indicates why they have gained alot of respect in the men’s fashion world…

Although PRPS are on the expensive side they are definitely one brand of jeans that is actually worth the money. If you have a pair of PRPS or are going to purchase some you will be able to tell from the amount of detail in them, how much work and care have gone into each pair to ensure quality denim that isn’t comparable to other brands of jeans. We discussed in previous posts including the Dsquared 09/10 collection and Justin Timberlake style how the distressed look in jeans has recently began to grow in popularity and make it’s way into this seasons trends, PRPS should be leading this trend as they have been producing distressed jeans for the last three years.

The new PRPS collection also includes some great mens clothing for the upper body, including t-shirts, leather and denim jackets, denim and checked shirts and knitwear. Last week we discussed the rise of the double denim in mens fashion and below the PRPS model (fourth row down, second column) has taken it one step further with a triple denim look. From looking at the images below you can see that PRPS are not big fans of skinny jeans, with most of the styles being a straight leg fit.

In 2008 Autumn and winter may have brought out long coats and trenches before, but not this year. One of the most sought-after pieces for the upcoming season will be the shrunken denim jacket, in a variety of styles, not just the denim jacket but the Double Denim look is catching on. it’s very daring but if pulled off looks so cool. The difference between these new, tinier versions of your traditional autumn and winter favorites is their length; cuts are the same as traditional coats, but they hit slightly above the waist and often tie or button under the chest. The beauty of these new pieces is that they provide coverage in colder months without sacrificing your cool image.

The beauty of these new denim jackets is the versatility they bring to your own style: mix them with denim, hoodys, tees, skinny jeans. Since there isn’t one specific style or fabric that will reign this fall, all styles and sizes can take advantage of a new take on an old favorite. this follows on from the rugged worker trend in a previous post.

Another signature feature of mens denim jacket is its Retro appeal. If you like your denim jacket to look stressed, it will look even better after months of heavy wear. As far as quality and durability is concerned, do consider classic brands of all time like Levis. Such renowned brands ensure your every single denim jacket is made with care and can last a long time.

In terms of color matching, you can trust denim jacket to mix well with your outfit perfectly. Whatever your favorite color may be, denim jacket can always blend seamlessly to your liking. However, if you want to create an impression you can always look for denim jackets in other shades other than blue. Do make sure that it can fit well with a couple of your outfits to keep your denim jacket versatile.

As far as material goes, the main material of denim jacket is of course denim. This type of jacket usually doesn’t have any zipper on the front. Instead, it comes with buttons normally. Denim material is well known to wear very well. This is one big reason why denim jacket is most wanted item in men’s wardrobe and it’s certainly value for money.

Kanye West is probably the first who has brought the denim look and double denim back. If you look at the pic on the left, you’ll notice he has even dared to wear triple denim (jeans, shirt and jacket, all in different washes).  I like West’s style, because he isn’t afraid of experimenting with fashion: in the second pic, for example, he tries to make double denim elegant, adding a white shirt, a blue sweater and a Bow-tie to jeans and jacket.

Recently, the trend has always been skinny jeans and layered cardigans and t-shirts, or Smart blazers and fitted shirts. The people that have kept this look going have now adopted the new trend. They’re going Geek Chic.
Now were not asking you to spend 10 hours of your day playing World of Warcraft, wear running trainers everywhere or even buy your jeans 6 inches shorter on leg. we mean adding certain accessories and styles that look down right nerdy, but with the right confidence and a good eye for fashion this can easily be pulled off.
Alot of celebritys have jumped on the bandwagon and got involved with this look, because the accessories like the clear lens glasses and the bow ties worn with a gentlemans suit or a fitted blazer just looks so unique.

Heres a couple of outfits i’ve put together that you can change into your own style or a way that suits you. Have fun!

In the UK as most of you may know, considering you are reading this because you are into fashion, the skinny jean is a wardrobe essential. Whether you’ve got an indie style or you consider yourself a lad about town. If you’re reading this because you’re thinking of investing a pair, i highly recommend it. The only jeans i own are all slim or skinny jeans, i couldn’t think of stepping outside in a pair of bootcut or flared jean in my life again! In my city, the skinny jean is considered the typical pair of jeans for the ‘Fashionable’ and ‘Trend setting’ minds. Don’t be fooled! though the jeans may be getting easier to wear, the look isn’t easy to pull off. The trick is to wear skinny jeans with slim-fitting shirts and pointy-toed dress shoes or dressy boots. Any squarish, loose or, worse still, boxy-fit sweater or shirt can make a man’s proportions look out of whack and his legs way too skinny. Today i’m going to put together a few outfits, ranging from Smart to Casual.

Smart Look

This look is more for when were coming into Autumn/winter but can still very much be pulled off at the moment. Starting with the left outfit, a very smart look. The blazer is From All Saints, Black Skinny Jeans are from Topman, and The Bass tassle loafers are from ASOS The Online Fashion Store. Underneath the blazer a good look would be a smart solid colour shirt or a crisp white Deep V-neck.

The Right outfit, Still smart but a little more casual. Casual Look

The Left Outfit, which has been quite popular recently is the denim shirt, sometimes wore open with a very large white scoop neck basically revealing your chest. The Right out fit is a very good look at the moment, Layered with a smart navy cardigan and maybe a white skinny belt. The Jeans also look very fashionable rolled up a few turns revealing the ankle. Polo Shirts seem to make their way into all men’s fashion trends and are popular throughout all seasons. I’m really liking this Vivienne Westwood polo implementing the high collar and three button trend like many of the Vivienne Westwood shirts. It seems as though the recent trend has been small collar polos but this polo takes it the other end of the scale with it’s overly large collar, however being Vivienne Westwood and having the high neck, the large collar is a good look and brings something new to the table for mens polo shirts.

This polo would go well with a pair of slim/skinny jeans and would look good underneath a mac or knit, or if you wanted to go a bit smarter a blazer. So far I have only seen this polo in black and red but I expect there are other colours out there. It can be purchased from www.my-wardobe.com retailing at £89.00.

The key to an Autumn wardrobe is mixing it up. In the past few years men have been reintroduced to a more dressed up look. Now feeling more comfortable with the idea they are ready to update the look by mixing and matching some key pieces. The blazer has become a must have to every man’s wardrobe. Versatility of this piece is vital when choosing your new blazer for Autumn.  Here are a few tips to guide you in the right direction in choosing a blazer:

• The blazer can be worn day to evening and should be able to work with various looks.
• A denim blazer will work for day time when paired with a fine knit sweater or can be brought to an evening look when put over a bold woven shirt (think novelty clip spots, or a small scale check shirt updated in bright colors).
• Tweed and herringbone can also be versatile options for a blazer. Look for updates to these classic fabrics in color and scale. Classic browns and blacks for tweeds and herringbones are accented with a royal blue, orange or other vivid colored yarn dyes.
• The fun part about the Autumn season is taking the blazer and pairing it with a complementing trouser. You don’t have to worry about having an exact match.
• Use the tweed blazer with a Deep V-neck and your favorite pair of dark washed denim or Skinny jeans.

• The way of putting them together is that the look is not fussy or contrived. It’s about feeling comfortable with these pieces and using different fabrics, constructions and weaves to create some surface interest/visual appeal.Take Tom Ford’s 2009 collections for example, it shows exactly how to pull off a blazer with variations of clothing and look ridiculously Smart and Suave.

On any night out now in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol etc. you will see a lot of stylish men rocking a blazer. I’m not talking what you used to wear to school or even the really formal suit jackets you wear for work – I am talking a more relaxed blazer jacket which has a bit of flair. Enough to make you look smart, with clean cut lines, but with a more relaxed, fashionable feel.

How To Wear A Blazer

Always make sure the fit is still slim and fitted. When you buy “off the rack” most of the big designers like Vivienne Westwood or Ralph Lauren will still come with a great cut and it’s just about getting the right size. If you go for a more budget fashion store then the fit might not be perfect, but you can easily get a local tailor or seamstress to take the blazer in at the right places and give it a perfect fit on you. These services literally only cost around ten to twenty pounds normally for a great job and will make it look like the blazer has cost hundreds more.

For a casual look that many will wear out on a night out you can go a completely different way; wear normal, fitted or skinny jeans, a Graphic T-shirt and throw the blazer on over the top. You can rock this with a nice relaxed Tasseled Loafer or Boat shoe. This gives off a definite relaxed vibe but will make you come across as stylish just from the fact you have put that little extra effort in with the blazer setting it all off. It adds clean cut style to your image and an impression of wealth.

Handkerchiefs

It can be difficult to get away with bold, bright colors, whether you are a man or a woman. However, men in particular have to be careful about flourishing in vibrant colors, at least on some occasions.

There is no question, however, that a bright spot or vibrant accenting piece in your ensemble can give it what it needs to be edgy. In certain cases, doing so can even lend an elegance and sophistication to what you are wearing. Such as when you give in to the return of handkerchiefs as accent pieces.

With a hanky in your front pocket, you can accentuate your outfit without overwhelming, as a brightly colored jacket might do. You typically want to make your handkerchief match a color in your shirt, tie, etc. or at least make it complementary.

Do not be a cheapskate with your handkerchiefs, either. The standard white one can take you far, but definitely do not be afraid of bolder colors, such as burgundy, a dark green, pale blues — even purple is sometimes acceptable.

At first glance, the graphic tee seems almost self-explanatory—throw it on over some jeans, slip on your trusted Converse and your off on your way, alot of celebritys  demonstrate this laid back high end of summer look.

Even though a graphic tee is typically associated with easygoing outfits, with a little creativity you can turn the outfit into a fashion-forward look. Last Autumn and Winter the quilted Barbour jacket became a popular men’s fashion trend, moving from the British countryside to the city streets and it seems the quilted style will be back this year. Many designers have predicted the return of this trend and have added quilted style jackets, bombers and gilets to their collections, meaning their will be large variety to choose from with a large price range. I have noticed designers such as Ralph Lauren and Burberry add the quilted style jackets to their collections and at the lower end of the price range ASOS have added the quilted jacket to their line. The quilted jacket will work well with a pair of slim jeans and a pair of boat shoes or tasseled loafers.
